After a series of research and troubleshooting from the players’ part, the problem seems to lie in the compatibility problem between the KB4598291 patch and Discord’s overlay mode. Microsoft had already warned a few days ago that the new update was going to be controversial. Especially when it comes to the cumulative patch released on February 9, 2021.
Microsoft had to fix the error after several complaints. A compatibility flaw was introduced with the newest Windows quality patches that are causing games to crash silently or crash when opened with Discord overlay mode.
The bug seems to affect all users of Windows 10 versions 1909, 2004, and 20H2. Earlier versions (such as 1903 and 1809) do not appear to be affected.
