Yeedi Vac Max Robot vacuums have come a long way in recent years. Consumers are no longer limited to high-end models that cost close to $1,000, as multiple companies have entered the fray and are offering surprisingly efficient products for half the price of their competitors.

After putting the Vac Max through its paces for the past month, the robot vacuum has proven to be a dependable product — though there is always room for improvement.

The sharpest tool on the line
Unfortunately, that’s when things started to go wrong. While mapping out my house, I noticed Yeedi backtracking and retracing its steps several times, which I assumed was normal. However, it appears that this is the standard operating procedure. Even after a month, I still find Yeedi repeatedly cleaning the same area of the house, while other areas are left undisturbed. Because the areas didn’t appear to be particularly dirty (some robot vacuums will cover the same area twice to ensure thorough cleaning), I was perplexed as to why Yeedi was doing a second pass. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s annoying.
Because Yeedi has a tendency to get stuck on objects (as do all smart vacuums), make sure your floor is clear of toys, clothing, shoelaces, and other small items that could cause it to stumble. Yeedi has a good stride, but I’ve found it getting hung up on small dog toys that I assumed it would detect as an obstacle and avoid. Instead, it enjoys acting as a bulldozer. Objects will then become entangled in its brush or prevent the vacuum from moving, resulting in an alert that Yeedi needs to be reset.

How to use Yeedi Vac Max app to map your home
You’ll need to go through a lengthy setup phase before you can have your robot cleaner whizzing around your house. You will connect Yeedi to your home Wi-Fi network and install the app on your smartphone during this process. After that, Yeedi will roam every corner of your home, mapping out your living space.
You’ll have a lot of downtimes while this is going on to explore the smartphone app — and you’ll need it. The Yeedi app covers almost everything. You can use your phone to set up scheduled cleaning times, track the location of your smart vacuum, adjust suction power, and change other cleaning preferences.
You can also create virtual boundaries to keep Yeedi from entering sensitive areas of your home. The feature was a lifesaver because the Vac Max had a habit of getting hung up underneath my desk or when cleaning between barstools. I was able to set virtual boundaries that prevent the smart vacuum from wandering into areas where it is likely to get stuck with just a few seconds of tapping on the app.
Yeedi was ready for a full debut after about a half-hour of mapping out my downstairs living space.
