On top of all the new games available on the system that take advantage of its impressive technical specs, the built-in catalog is an added bonus. The Series X is still expanding in terms of first-party exclusives. Following a rather barren first year, Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 helped to enhance the console’s library. There will be more games in the future. Microsoft’s Bethesda acquisition will bring exclusives like Starfield to the system in the near future, but third-party support is the console’s true strength.
We’ve gone through the current crop of new Xbox games to put together a running list of titles that new console owners shouldn’t miss, with the Series X and Series S ending up a fantastic first year.
Platformers
It Takes Two: It Takes Two has the potential to be the best multiplayer game ever made. Hazelight Studios and director Josef Fares put their hearts and souls into the two-player adventure game. Instead of putting players against each other, it’s a true co-op game in which players work together to solve problems.
Psychonauts 2: Microsoft had to put Psychonauts 2 to the test. Despite the fact that the game was supposed to be released on both PC and PlayStation, Microsoft decided to make it an Xbox exclusive. Because Microsoft owns developer Double Fine, it’s a first-party title.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps: Ori and the Will of the Wisps is your only option if you’ve ever wanted to play a Metroidvania that looks like a painting in motion. As if the magnificent art style and unexpectedly touching plot weren’t enough to entice you to play this game, there’s also the fact that it’s free.
