Star Wars Lightsaber: If you were a Jedi in the Star Wars universe, which lightsaber wielder would you be?
The three classes of lightsaber users are Guardian, Consular, and Sentinel.
More often than not, though, let’s face it – we don’t really need to be thinking about being serene and wise as a Jedi, do we? Thankfully, there’s a whole world of people out there that have thought about it for us. They are called fans, and this is the focus of Star Wars. Star Wars has had so many different opinions on what you should be as a lightsaber replica user that sometimes I just don’t know where to look. I’ve even wondered how this can be, but you know what? In the end, it doesn’t really matter. As a fan, you are free to interpret Star Wars in any way that makes you happy.
Let’s face it; if we had to play games by George Lucas’ rules, then it would be a pretty dull place.
In respect of the trilogy, your lightsaber skills will revolve around lightsaber styles. First of all, you have to decide what class you belong to – Guardian, Consular, or Sentinel? Once you’ve chosen this one, you are then free to choose from the Jedi Order as a whole.
The Guardians Style
Guardians style their fighting style after the Jedi’s ancestors, warriors of the peace who put down rebellions and fought with a heavy focus on “strength through discipline.” They are the archetypal swordsmen, long-bladed lightsabers that lend themselves to sweeping solid strikes, quick slashes, and the odd block.
Consular consider themselves guides. This style was first practiced during the days of great thinkers such as Doan, Master Plagueis, Palpatine, and Yoda – all of which were wise teachers to their students. The general fighting style would be fast, light-footed, and precise, with a focus on equilibrium over strength.
Sentinels are typically military men, Jedi who had been in the service of the Republic for a long time to become generals and leaders of armies – whilst not typically having to fight on the front lines themselves. This fighting style is a little different from your everyday swordsman because it involves more defensive blocks than offensive swings.

The Jedi
As a Jedi, you are technically not allowed to draw your lightsaber unless there is a clear and present danger, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pretend. And what better way to “pretend” than with an awesome replica of Luke Skywalker’s blue lightsaber? Just be sure to remove the stickers and button covers before playing.
So with no further ado then, I present to you my Top 3 Lightsaber Replicas:
Although not strictly a replica in the true sense of the word (because it is not built from scratch), this lightsaber does have some similarities to Han Solo’s old DL-44 version.
You can buy this from Toys R Us for about £60, which is an excellent price for such an authentic-looking replica. It comes complete with the standard blade (but you can, of course, add your own), and if you’re like me, then you have to let out a little “whoosh” as you swing it around.
This pretty much looks like the real thing, so much so that it could easily be considered a replica instead of a toy (I mean, what do you think Han Solo was playing at when he gave this to Luke? A lightsaber from Toys R Us?). It is made out of plastic with painted details, and there is absolutely no way that you can tell it is not the real thing.
Star Wars Shop
You can buy this from Star Wars Shop for £75.95, and if you’re looking for a replica. Then this should be at the top of your list! This is truly a fantastic toy and, in my opinion, one of the best toys I have ever bought.
I’m not even going to pretend I know how this works, but it sure does look fantastic! Made from a mix of plastic and electronics, the glowing parts are pretty realistic when they are on. There is a little button that you hold down, which allows you to swing the lightsaber around. And it looks pretty cool when it’s in motion.
It is recommended for children over eight years old. Still, I would say the same as with any toy, really – you can let your child play with it if they are responsible enough not to hurt anyone or anything (obviously also removing all stickers and button covers before playing).
Return Of The Jedi
This replica was released on May 4th, 2012, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi and can only be bought on Amazon for about £55. I don’t have this myself, but it looks like a pretty good replica (the box is nice and detailed).
Big shout out to my dad for buying me his version (which you can see in action in the video below). It looks like the real thing, even down to the excellent blade design.
This is a pretty cool toy that you can buy from Amazon for about £30. I have this, and it’s fun to play around with (it has some weight behind it, so when you swing it on its plastic cord, it looks realistic when it spins). The blade is green and not blue, but you can add your own stickers and have some fun.
This isn’t technically a replica (although it does look like one) because this lightsaber comes with its light-up mechanism. It’s made out of plastic with a transparent opening so you can see the lights inside.
You can buy this from Amazon for about £15, and it’s pretty cool to look at (particularly in a dark room if you remember to turn off the light-up switch). The only thing I would say is that it seems pretty small, but not as small as some of the other toy lightsabers you can buy.
Darth Vader’s Lightsaber
This is a replica of Darth Vader’s lightsaber, and it looks pretty cool, but in my opinion, it doesn’t look like one! If anything, this looks more like an accessory for the game they played on that episode of Dexter ‘Wishful Thinking’, with its black and red neon lights and black and red plastic.
It can also be bought from Amazon for about £50, so it’s a pretty expensive replica too! It is made out of plastic, but I would say the colors are very faithful to the design in the film (so if you want something completely accurate, then this might do).
This was released as a limited edition in December 2011. And it is a fantastic little replica (though maybe not as faithful to the design in the movie as some of my other picks here). It’s made of plastic, but it comes with a telescopic blade that you can extend if you want to get a bit more authentic.
It also has lights just like a real lightsaber (the only other replica on this list that has lights) and comes with a little stand to keep it on. You can also buy additional blades for the light-up function if you want to get a bit more creative.
This toy is pretty cool, as it is very much like a real lightsaber but without the pain of getting cut in half! It’s made out of plastic and looks pretty good. But I would say that it takes a bit of work to get the right amount of air between your hands.

Star Wars Lightsaber Replica
It also doesn’t seem to have that much weight behind it when you are swinging it around (I can just about stand up one-handed while turning it around). But again don’t let this put you off, as it looks pretty realistic. It also comes with a light-up feature and sounds, which means that when you get hit on/off by the lightsaber. Then it makes a noise, and there are even some cool sound effects if you ‘activate’ the saber from the handle.
This is the only officially official replica of Darth Vader’s lightsaber that you can buy! It came with a limited edition of Star Wars Episode III. And it looks pretty cool, as long as you are happy to have a plastic one (I would say that this probably looks more like an official replica than the Anovos ones).
It has an excellent design, as it is very clean and simple (I like the way that you can see the actual hilt rather than all of the additional ‘plastic gadgetry’). I would say that this probably looks more accurate to its movie counterpart than many of the other replicas out there. Star Wars Lightsaber
If you can get hold of this, then you should, as it’s only worth about one-tenth of the price that some other replicas are.
This is pretty much a replica of Darth Vader’s lightsaber, and you can buy it for about £30 in most places. It looks alright, though nothing special as it is made out of plastic. Again, my only criticism is the way that it doesn’t look like a lightsaber! It has lights and sounds just like an actual one when you press the buttons, though, so if you want something more realistic, then this could be a good choice.
This was another limited edition replica released in December 2011 (I love Star Wars)
