Microsoft Surface Studio 3: Microsoft’s annual Surface fall event, scheduled for October 12 at 10 a.m. ET is just around the corner. Microsoft is expected to unveil a new Surface Studio four years after the last one was released in 2018.
Here is a roundup of all the reliable leaks and rumors about the Surface Studio 3. We have done our best to weed out all of the forgeries, and we’ll keep updating this post as new information becomes available.
Check out our roundup of all the devices we expect to see at Microsoft’s event, including the Surface Pro 9 and Surface Laptop 5.
Design and Features
We already know what the Surface Studio 3 will look like thanks to an FCC leak, and it won’t be much different from the Surface Studio 2. According to the leaked image, the Surface Studio 3 chassis is identical to the previous generation. Even the bezels have not been shrunk.
This was pretty much confirmed when the Studio 3 accessories leaked, revealing very minor design changes. Because the updated Surface Pen is the older, thicker design, Studio 3 lacks a dedicated charging dock for the wirelessly charged Surface Slim Pen 2.
We expect the Surface Studio 3 to include Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support, as have other Surface products in the past year. There’s no word on whether the device will have a 120Hz display or whether it will be compatible with external devices, but we can only hope.

Surface Studio 3 Specifications
There are a few details about the upcoming Surface Studio 3. I learned more than a year ago that the next Surface Studio would ship with an Intel 11th-generation chip, and my sources say that will remain the case when the device ships next month. This is a disappointing revelation given that Intel 13th-gen is just around the corner.
I’ve also heard it will have NVIDIA RTX graphics, which will most likely be of the last generation. Thunderbolt 4 support is on the way, and I expect the Studio 3 to come with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. I did hear that Microsoft would not be shipping multiple Studio 3 configurations.
Overall, the Surface Studio 3’s spec refresh is a significant improvement over the Surface Studio 2, which features a 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor and an NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics card. Although an 11th-generation chip and RTX graphics will provide significant performance improvements, it is still last-gen specs when compared to the competition, which is extremely disappointing.
Finally, I’ve heard that the Surface Studio 3 will include some I/O changes. The SD card reader has been replaced on the back by three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. And two of the USB-A ports have been removed, leaving two.

Microsoft Surface Studio 3 price and release date
Surface Studio 3 will be announced in October and will begin shipping to customers in November. Pricing for the Surface Studio 3 is expected to remain very high, with a starting price of more than $3000.
The ongoing component shortage will have a significant impact on availability. Microsoft is likely to want Surface Studio 3 to launch in all of the same markets as Surface Studio 2, but the roll-out may be much slower if Microsoft is unable to gather enough stock for the launch.
