Robot vacuum cleaner manufacturers devote a lot of effort to developing new technologies, and the most expensive, high-tech robots can cost hundreds of dollars. But what about those who are on a tighter budget? Are they still as good, efficient, and dependable as their more expensive cousins?
This review shows the cleaning power, effectiveness, and whether it stands alone compared to those more expensive robots — or if you’ll be wishing you’d spent a few more bucks for those features.
iRobot Roomba e5
The iRobot e5 is a Wi-Fi-connected, app-controlled robot vacuum that’s similar in size to other Roombas but costs less. For $350, you get a proficient robot vacuum that cleans your floors and keeps your home tidy.
The e5 operates similarly to other Roombas, albeit it appears to do more than simply navigate your space by gently bumping into items, backing away from impediments, and continuing on. One significant difference between this robot and the more expensive iRobot choices is that it lacks mapping and cognitive navigation, which allows it to genuinely see around obstructions, so you might say it navigates by touch rather than sight.

Comparison with other Roombas
Navigation and home mapping are missing when compared to the considerably more expensive Roombas. Those features would generally allow you to develop a map of your home so that you may clean specific rooms or establish cleaning plans for specific days. You can schedule this bot, but you can’t tell it where it should clean when it goes out.
The e5 has less suction than the Roomba s9+, and unlike the s9+, there is no suction increase on carpets with the e5. There’s also a $650 difference in price between the two; the s9base +’s model starts at $1,000. The Roomba e5 does an admirable job, albeit rather naively.
When the Roomba e5’s dustbin is full, you’ll have to empty it yourself. The e5 lacks the ability to use automatic dirt disposal. You should get reminders to empty the trashcan, according to iRobot, but I couldn’t get this to function in practice. I’d forget to check too often, and the trash can would be overflowing.
When comparing the e5 to the s9+, the e5 has a maximum run time of 90 minutes, however, the s9+ will return to base and recharge itself as needed to complete the clean of the entire house.

How it works
From pet hair to crumbs and fine dirt, as well as grittier bits, the iRobot Roomba E5 picked up a lot of different things. While it appears to clean in a more haphazard and less systematic manner, it appears to get the job done.
The e5 was able to smoothly transition from tile to hardwood to carpet, and it cleaned each area well. Some users have reported that it has trouble with taller flooring changes, but in my home, where the transitions are rather modest, it worked great.
During our testing, the e5 was able to power two or three rooms on my 1,000-square-foot main level with a single charge. The robot could effortlessly navigate from room to room, passing through doorways and around beds or furniture.
This Roomba also has a helpful “spot clean” option, which causes the gadget to start swirling and inhale anything in a specific area. I decided to put this feature to the test by dumping flour on the floor and bringing the Roomba over to clean it up. While the Roomba e5 didn’t have the suction capacity to pull the flour out of the deeper areas on the tile floor, it was able to suck all of the flour from the tile surface.
Of all the robot vacuum brands I’ve reviewed, Roombas are the least likely to become stuck in the first place. I’ll admit that on a handful of occasions, I’ve returned home to discover older Roombas stalled at the top of the stairs, or stuck on a rug or a loose sock. This is due to the fact that these robots lack the same obstacle detection and avoidance technology as the Roomba j7+.

iRobot Roomba e5 app
You can control your vacuum, adjust settings, and start cleaning from anywhere, even inside your house or from your office across town, using the iRobot app. You can choose which days of the week and times you want cleaning to take place using the schedule feature. The app is incredibly user-friendly and simple to use.
Roomba e5 Noise level
Many people’s first question regarding a robot vacuum is about noise. I did notice that the e5 was slightly quieter than the s9, which could be due to the e5’s reduced suction power. If you’re concerned about noise, vacuuming can be scheduled for when you’re not home.
