The Sahara Desert hosts a number of automobile sports events throughout the year, but none of them comes close to the significance that Rallye Aicha des Gazelles du Maroc holds. The Rallye Aicha Des Gazelles has been a tradition in southern Morocco since 1990.
This major sporting event invites females from all over the globe together to compete in an incredible race through the Moroccan desert. From September 17 to October 2, this year, Giti is excited to introduce their collaboration with the ‘Giti Gazelles’ by taking part in the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles desert rally.
What makes the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles unique?
Taking place in the desolate regions of southern Morocco, the Rallye Acha des Gazelles du Maroc is notable for being solely open to female participants. The rally’s core premise is that contestants tackle wilderness alone, with only one teammate for company. Without any inclusion of GPS, the event only allows a set of directions to follow where the gazelles are split into experienced and novice categories.
The Gazelles are a multicultural team of women with a wide range of ages, backgrounds, occupations, and experiences. Rallye Aicha des Gazelles has developed a fresh perspective of vehicle race from its beginning with no speed or GPS, simply old-fashioned navigation, and entirely off-road.
Gazelles, who are allowed to pick their preferred course, confront a task on a daily basis: they must learn the map and the given geographical coordinates assess the terrain’s hazards and challenges and find the quickest distance. Their objective is to drive the shortest route rather than the quickest timeframe to a set of predetermined checkpoints. Unlike typical rally raids, where courses are pre-determined, each squad has its separate plan and the opportunity to create its very own path.
Sahara may portray a picture of a landscape of unending stretches of plain and sandy terrain to those who have never been there – yet the panorama near the desert’s northern border may vary significantly for miles. Morocco is blessed with awe-inspiring natural beauty and the Rallye Des Gazelles has a picturesque landscape with a peaceful serenity.
Giti’s take on Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles
The off-road all-women team, ‘Giti Gazalles’ in collaboration with Giti Tire are all ready to participate in the coming Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles desert rally – one of the most prestigious sporting events that take place in Morocco every year.
Helen Tait Wright, a skilled pilot, and Sue Alemann, an expert navigator, make up the Giti Gazelles crew, along with Priscilla, their treasured vehicle. Helen’s Land Rover Defender 110, Priscilla, is one of many Land Rovers in her collection, and the team has properly prepped her for the second desert expedition. Priscilla is installed with a Giti 4×4 AT70 tire, which may be used on and off-road in a wide range of conditions.
The Rallye Acha des Gazelles is a one-of-a-kind event that began in 1990 and is still going strong today. The all-female rally has created a brand new vision for racing, with no GPS and a completely off-road course. Rather than focusing on speed, it emphasizes each team’s use of navigational strategies for achieving success over the 15-day journey.
Along with the racing action, Giti Tire and the Gazelles are thrilled to fund community assistance programs, which will emphasize environmental matters as well as academic help in rural Morocco. The Giti Gazelles duo also supports charitable activities in North Africa and France in collaboration with Giti.
The Giti Gazelles’ collaboration maintains Giti’s dedication to inclusiveness and women’s empowerment in racing. This involves the organization’s continuing collaboration with the ‘Girls Only’ Giti Racing Team, an exclusive all-female racing crew that has had a lot of achievements in the last several years, such as having won its team in Nürburgring VLN racing and its notable performance levels in the previous two 24 Hours Nürburgring races on Giti tires.
