Surface Laptop Go 2 with Improved Webcam and Performance

The standard Surface Laptop is an excellent device, but not everyone wants to pay that much for a device that measures 13 or 15 inches. Enter the Surface Laptop Go 2, a 12.5-inch device built to Surface specifications. The display isn’t as high-resolution as other Surface products, and it doesn’t support inking, but it’s still colorful and bright.

The keyboard is comfortable (though there is no backlight), and the battery will last you most of the day. The price reflects the fact that performance hardware is appropriate for anyone with standard productivity tasks in mind. This is a great option for anyone who needs a backup laptop or something portable for school.

The “Surface Laptop Go 2 is a modest upgrade over the previous model on paper, but using that new Core i5 makes it feel much more premium than you would expect.” After months of speculation, the Surface Laptop Go 2 has finally been confirmed. The new budget-friendly Surface is now available for pre-order, with an improved webcam and a boost in processing power thanks to Intel’s 11th-generation CPUs.

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2

Microsoft hopes that this latest member of the Surface family will offer you a “signature premium design in an ultra-portable format” as a follow-up to 2020’s Surface Laptop Go. Despite this, the product’s physical aluminum and polycarbonate design have not changed at all.

Microsoft has introduced a new “Sage” color for the Laptop Go 2. According to Microsoft, the new color has “green and gray notes with a hint of blue.” This is in addition to the existing Ice Blue, Sandstone, and Platinum options.

The most significant change is the inclusion of Intel’s 11th-generation processor on the new Surface Laptop Go 2. This is the first Surface PC with an Intel-based secure core processor. The original model used processors from the 10th generation, so the addition of the Intel Core i5-1135G7 should bring the performance benefit of Intel’s Iris Xe graphics. This is the only CPU option available.

Microsoft claims that with normal usage, this combination can provide up to 13.5 hours of battery life. RAM on the laptop can be configured to be 4GB or 8GB, with a 16GB option available on the commercial unit. Storage capacity can be increased to 128GB or 256GB. The SSD can be removed by authorized technicians only.

In terms of the webcam, it is getting better. Along with the dual microphones, Microsoft claims that “you’ll look and sound your best when making video calls.”

The Surface Laptop Go 2 retains the original’s screen and keyboard. You’ll get a 12.4-inch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1536 x 1024 (148 PPI). The Surface Pen is still not supported. You’ll get a deck with 30% more key travel than a MacBook Air with the keyboard.

Select models also include a built-in fingerprint reader on the power button. However, Microsoft has yet to add backlighting to the keyboard.

Ports are also the same across generations. The Surface Connect Port, as well as USB-A, USB-C, and a headphone jack remain in the mix.

The Surface Laptop Go 2 is priced at $600. It is now available for pre-order through BestBuy.com and Microsoft Store.com.
