Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung’s tentpole releases for the second half of the year, are almost here. While the company hasn’t named them or even released teasers, there have been enough whispers to paint a picture of a very iterative upgrade. Here is everything we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, which has a similar design and minor specs changes.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Design
The Galaxy Z Flip is a foldable flip phone that looks similar to classic flip phones from the past. Consider the Motorola Razr (no, not that one). The upcoming Flip 4 is unlikely to deviate significantly from this formula. The live images and renders that have leaked online show a phone that looks eerily similar to the Flip 3. When the Z Flip 4 is opened, we can expect a small outer display, two main cameras, and a larger display on the inside. If you’ve ever used or seen the Z Flip 3, expect more of the same with the Z Flip 4.
More specific changes include a slightly larger external screen for notifications and a much smaller crease. The Flip 4 will be available in Graphite, Bora Purple, Pink Gold, and Blue colorways, according to leaker Jon Prosser — aka gray, purple, gold, and blue.
Samsung, like the Flip 3, is reportedly working on a “Bespoke” edition. This is a foldable customization option that allows users to create a more personalized Flip 4. “Customers can mix and match phone frame options of black or silver, and front and back colors of blue, yellow, pink, white, or black to create their own unique combination,” Samsung said of the Bespoke Flip 3. According to SamMobile, the Flip 4 will have more color options than the Flip 3. The Bespoke edition is also expected to expand beyond Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States to other European and Asian markets.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Software
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with a One UI 4 build based on Android 12L, followed by One UI 5 and Android 13. Android 12L is Google’s version of Android 12 that is more optimized for foldable, though it’s unclear which (if any) of its benefits can be realized on this decidedly small device. On the larger Fold 4, the dual-pane notification center and new task manager would be more useful, though bug fixes and optimizations would also be appreciated.
Specifications
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is an iterative update from Samsung, so expect the usual spec bumps. This includes a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. A triple camera setup, consisting of two 12-megapixel cameras on the back and a front-facing 10MP selfie camera, is also expected.
For more specific changes, it is rumored that Samsung will introduce a 1TB option for the Flip 4. You’ll be able to store as many photos as you want, with 12GB of RAM to support your multitasking needs.
There’s not much information on the battery other than a noticeable 10-20% improvement. Along with the cameras, the battery was the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s weakest link. Potential buyers will be relieved if Samsung can address one or both of these flaws.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 release date and price
Based on previous releases, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to be released at Samsung’s second Unpacked event, which is scheduled for August. “We are currently preparing the new foldable model, which is scheduled to launch in the second half,” Sung-Koo Kim, vice president of Samsung Mobile, confirmed earlier in April.
While Samsung has yet to confirm a specific date, the word on the internet rumor mill (courtesy of the somewhat reliable Jon Prosser) is that the event will take place on August 10. Samsung usually announces this event a month in advance, so we should have confirmation in a matter of weeks. Regardless of Prosser’s trustworthiness, an August release was the most likely option, with the Flip and Fold lines replacing Samsung’s Galaxy Note in 2021.
Samsung may maintain the same $1,000 starting price as the Flip 3, or it may lower it as economies of scale kick in and component prices fall. Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young believes the latter.
