Intel Arc GPU: Here is what you need to know about Intel Arc A770: Arc A-series graphics processing units (GPUs) are supported by Intel Graphics Beta Driver version 31.0.101.3959. This includes the A310, A380, A750, and A770, as well as mobile chips.
The performance of games that run DirectX 9, such as League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, has been improved thanks to optimizations that have been implemented.
Recent titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (DX12) and Dota 2 have benefited from improvements made to DirectX 11 and 12 respectively. In the company’s own testing, Intel found that average framerates were up to 1.8 times faster than they were with the previous driver.

On its Arc Alchemist graphics cards, Intel has made great strides toward improving the performance of DirectX 9 in recent months. On the Arc A770, one of the strongest graphics cards currently available, the most recent 31.0.101.3959 driver (opens in a new tab) provides up to 1.8X better average FPS and up to 2.3X increased 99th percentile FPS compared to previous versions.
When Arc was initially released, it was already common knowledge that games using outdated application programming interfaces (APIs) give a poor performance on Intel graphics cards. Nevertheless, Intel had promised that its performance will increase over time, and the semiconductor manufacturer has made good on that promise. Because of this, the newly released Arc display driver delivers a significant improvement in overall performance in DirectX 9 games, such as CS: GO, League of Legends, Starcraft 2, Guild Wars 2, Payday 2, and Stellaris, among others.

When playing CS:GO at 1080p and high settings, the new v3953 driver generated an average frame rate that was 1.79 times greater than the driver that came before it (31.0.101.3490). When comparing the framerates of the old driver, which were 177 FPS, to the framerates of the new driver, which are 318 FPS, there is a significant increase. We are looking at a performance that is 1.77 times better when playing at 1440p with the ultra settings. It’s not simply that the v3953 driver makes the framerates skyrocket; it does a lot more than that. Additionally, it makes for a more fluid gameplay experience. The Arc A770 demonstrated a 99th percentile frame rate that was 2.26 times higher while using the v3953 driver at 1080p, and it was 2.15 times higher at 1440p.
The test machine that Intel used was very typical of a high-end gaming personal computer. A Core i9-12900K (Alder Lake) processor, 32 gigabytes (2×16 gigabytes) of Dominator Platinum DDR5-5600 C36 memory, and an Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard were the components that made up the system. During testing, Intel utilized the Arc A770; however, the Arc A750, Arc A380, or their mobile counterparts should experience comparable gains in performance thanks to the v3959 driver.
Intel has stated that current application programming interfaces, such as DirectX 12 and Vulkan, are still the primary emphasis of the corporation; nonetheless, the business has decided to employ a hybrid strategy. As a consequence of this, there will be times when a game will run on the native DirectX implementation, while there will also be times when it will make use of translation layers in order to transition from DirectX 9 to a newer API.
It is astounding what the engineers at Intel were able to do with the Arc driver in the less than two months that have passed since the launch of the Arc graphics cards. Notwithstanding this, Intel has pledged to provide additional enhancements for games that are based on legacy APIs, which suggests that it may only be a matter of time before we see improved performance for games that are based on DirectX 10 or DirectX 11.
