Best DDR4 RAM for gaming 2023

DDR4 RAM is what your desktop PC uses to store program and game data for the CPU and other components to quickly access. Because fast RAM makes your PC feel faster to use, we have compiled a list of the best DDR4 RAM for gaming available in the market today.

Best DDR4 RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z Royal

Best DDR4 RAM

These are probably the best-looking RAM kits on the market, depending on your personal preferences, of course. They’re stunning in my opinion. The all-metallic heat spreaders, combined with the crystalized RGB lighting effect on the top, make the G.SKILL Trident Z Royal RAM extremely pleasing to look at when active.

Aside from their good looks, these RAM modules perform admirably in-game and under heavy workloads. With XMP 2.0 support, it’s simple to increase the standard speed to what G.SKILL specifies, but you may be able to squeeze a little more out of the RAM beyond that.

The price of the Trident Z Royal, which is significantly higher than other RAM like the Corsair Vengeance, may put you off. There’s also the fact that these modules are a little bulky, making it even more important to double-check clearance for your preferred CPU cooler.

Corsair Vengeance LPX

Best DDR4 RAM

Corsair’s Vengeance LPX series provides a small but powerful solution for high-performance RAM. While the modules aren’t the fastest on the market, the kits are an incredible value for new and existing PC builds. Because of the aluminum heat spreaders, they can also overclock with XMP 2.0.

The list of supported modules is also extensive, allowing you to use these modules on older Intel 100 series or AMD 300 series motherboards. We’re focusing on the 3200MHz kit, which comes with a base clock of 2133MHz but can be easily upgraded to 3200MHz with a simple change in the motherboard BIOS.

The only real drawback is the inability to overclock beyond the XMP configured boost. As a result, the 3200MHz kit we highlight will not go much faster than that without causing system instability. Nonetheless, for most builds (including small form factor cases), this kit will suffice for work, play, and enthusiasts.

Best DDR4 RAM: Patriot Viper 4

Patriot’s Viper 4 RAM is about $10 less expensive than Corsair’s Vengeance series RAM, but it’s only slightly slower. If you’re on a tighter budget, this is a great example of some solid, dependable RAM without spending too much money, freeing up some extra funds for a better CPU or GPU.

The design isn’t spectacular, but that’s not the point of the Viper 4 kit. It’s designed to get the job done quickly and quietly. It’s also slower out of the box than the G.SKILL and Corsair recommendations.

Thermaltake WaterRam RGB

Thermaltake looked at its RAM and decided that simple metal heat spreaders would not suffice. As a result, we have RGB and water-cooled RAM. You read that correctly; you can now cool your RAM with water. This allows you to take your custom water-cooling loop and combine it with your RAM.

This should give the RAM modules more headroom, allowing you to overclock them a little higher while also enjoying lower operating temperatures. Thermaltake, on the other hand, isn’t just about looks. There is XMP profile support and consistent performance throughout.

The price of the Thermaltake WaterRam RGB kits is the only drawback. You should expect to pay a lot of money for a 16GB kit. However, if appearances are everything, this is a fantastic RAM solution. Simply ensure that your motherboard has a 5V RGB header.

Conclusion

When shopping for DDR4 RAM for your desktop PC, consider clock speeds, latency numbers, required voltage, design, price, and compatibility with your motherboard and processor. Most modern boards and CPUs will support clock speeds of 3200MHz and higher, but double-check.

The Corsair Vengeance LPX is our recommendation. It’s fast enough for modern computing, doesn’t cost much more than the competition, and comes in a sleek aluminum package. There are also a variety of kit sizes available, ranging from 4GB to 128GB.  However, if you want your PC to stand out, only G.SKILL’s Trident Z Royal RAM will suffice. It’s quick, dependable, and stylish. The only disadvantage is the exorbitant asking price.
